Music has always been a large part of my life, and while I have decided not to major in music here at the UW, I knew coming in that I would want to keep playing my horn. I auditioned on Trombone for the UW Studio Jazz Ensemble here on campus and was fortunate enough to get a spot in the band. We have played a lot of really cool music and have had some really awesome concerts. I have also gotten the chance to play a bunch of gigs around UW and Seattle with some of the people I have met while attending UW. I even got to sub for some local professional big bands in the area.
It's hard to describe how good it feels to play music. There is something about the raw expression that one can acheive with music that sets it apart from a lot of other activities. When you are on stage with a group of people who are pouring their energy into creating something beautiful for the audience, well let's just say it's really hard to find a more powerful moment than that. I will definitely continue to make sure that I am playing music throughout my time at UW, and look forward to building more connections at UW and in Seattle.
