H230: PRactical Vs Possible
Honors 230 is a class that deals with ideas about effective leadership in democracies and the creation of a more thoughtful public. The reading that I focused on in the paper above allowed me to better articulate this idea of pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. In paragraph four you'll notice I talk about the distinction made in the reading between practicality and possibility. A little bit of both is good to have. I must know what is practical, to know what I can and cannot achieve right now in order to be productive. At the same time, I must know what is possible, to push myself to strive for things that don't fall within my immediate practicality but are larger goals that I could one day, with enough work, achieve. This idea of practical vs possible helped me develop my thinking about the importance of pushing myself outside of my comfort zone.
Experiential Learning
I have been thinking about studying abroad for a while now, but I'm still very nervous about the idea of living in another country. I have travelled to other countries before, and so it's not really the idea of travelling that scares me, but more the idea of having to live in that new place for an extended period of time. Continuing with my theme of pushing myself outside of my comfort zone, I think I will plan to study abroad as part of my experiential learning requirement in the Honors program. I might be nervous but I think it wil really be a rewarding experience and it's a nice bonus on the side that I can fulfill a Honors requirement while studying abroad.
